My Counselling Approach
I use a person-centred approach, which creates a safe, non-judgemental counselling environment where I support the client to resolve his or her own problems.
This approach puts the client at the centre of the counselling process. It believes that clients are ‘experts’ in their own lives and I rely on them to lead and set the pace of the counselling session.
A person-centred approach also believe that clients come to the counselling relationship with the inherent capability to make changes themselves. I use gentle, non-judgemental questioning rather than advising a client.
Using this approach, my aim is to facilitate the client’s trust and ability to be in the present moment, allowing them to be honest in the process without feeling judged, promote the client’s self-awareness and self-esteem and empower the client to change.
